Dr. Baraa Hassan Latief earned her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Baghdad, College of Sciences, in 2019. Her doctoral research focused on the synthesis and characterization of new cyclic imides bearing various five- and six-membered heterocycles and their biological activities. She completed her Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Tikrit in 2013, where she investigated addition reactions to Schiff bases and prepared new thiourea compounds. Dr. Latief holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Diyala, College of Sciences, awarded in 2008.
Professional Experience
Dr. Latief is currently a Lecturer of Organic Chemistry at the College of Dentistry, University of Diyala. Since 2008, she has held various academic positions across institutions such as the College of Al-Razi Education, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the College of Medicine, and Bilad Al-Rafidan University College. Dr. Latief has taught diverse subjects, including organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and pharmaceutical analysis, catering to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she has actively contributed to institutional committees, including serving as a member of the Scientific Committee, Examination Committee, and Quality Assurance and Academic Performance Committee. Her administrative leadership includes being Chairman of the Quality Assurance Committee in 2022 and serving as a member of the Accreditation Committee at the College of Medicine.
Research Interest
Dr. Latief’s research interests lie in organic synthesis, heterocyclic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and materials chemistry. Her work focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel organic compounds, exploring their biological activities (antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anticorrosion properties), and investigating their potential applications in pharmaceutical and industrial fields.
