Assoc. Prof. Dr. Samira Maatallah earned her Doctoral degree in Biology (Plant Ecophysiology) from the University of Tunis El Manar/Faculty of Sciences of Tunis/INRGREF in 2012, with the thesis “Physiological and biochemical behavior of young Laurus nobilis L. plants subject to increasing levels of water stress.” She also holds a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Plant Ecophysiology (2003) and a Master’s in Natural Sciences (2000) from the same institution. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Experimental Sciences in 1996 from M’dhilla Gafsa Secondary School in Tunisia.

Dr. Maatallah has accumulated extensive teaching and research experience in plant ecophysiology. She served as a contractual assistant at the Higher Institute of Biotechnology of Sidi Thabet and the Faculty of Sciences of Gafsa from 2004 to 2009, teaching Plant Physiology and Plant Biology. From 2011 to 2016, she was a contract research assistant at CRRA Sidi Bouzid, where she focused on agricultural research. Since 2016, she has been a Professor Assistant of Agricultural Higher Education at IRESA/CRRA. Her research includes several national projects, such as studying nitrate accumulation in vegetables and the use of local seeds for potato production. She has also coordinated scientific collaboration agreements to evaluate new peach varieties in Central Tunisia.

Dr. Maatallah’s research interests include plant ecophysiology, salinity tolerance, ion transport, water stress response, and the biochemical analysis of plants. She has focused on physiological and biochemical responses of plants to various environmental stresses, including water and salinity stress, as well as the analysis of osmocompatible compounds and essential oils.
